Who We Are

Village in the Valley (ViVa) is a 501(c)(3) community organization founded in 2019 to connect the black community with each other, as well as to bridge the gap with the various cultures that reside in the Valley. Its three core principles are culture, community, and commerce. 


Mission Statement:

Elevating and uniting the Black community while connecting cultures in the Rio Grande Valley.


Vision Statement:

Building bridges of community and commerce to unite the diverse cultures across the Rio Grande Valley.

What We Do

Village in the Valley is a nonprofit organization that creates the Black Experience in the RGV through Culture, Community, and Commerce.

ViVa provides scholarships, essential resources, and cultural programming to foster unity, opportunity, and appreciation for all. Listed below are some signature ViVa programs/events:

Black Heritage Holidays (MLK Day, BHM, Juneteenth, Freedom Walk, John Lewis day)

Community & Civic Service (Community Closet, Election Forums, Scholarship, Thanksgiving Meals for Seniors)
