Who We Are

 Our Vision

The South Texas Literacy Coalition (STLC) envisions South Texas as a community where every child and adult is a life-long learner skilled with the highest levels of literacy.

 

Our Mission

The Mission of the South Texas Literacy Coalition is to lead an active coalition of literacy providers by promoting and enhancing literacy services and encouraging lifelong learning.

Today the South Texas Literacy Coalition is 35 organizations/members strong and continues to work diligently to serve as a voice for the literacy community while helping make a difference in the lives of children and families by providing literacy resources.

What We Do

South Texas Literacy Coalition will promote a culture of literacy by:

  • Increase family involvement in literacy activities.
  • Increase community awareness and understanding of literacy's importance by implementing annual events.
  • Collect and maintain current data on literacy challenges and best practices in the service area and define and prioritize goals based on this data.
  • Secure and distribute resources, and develop plans to provide training and technical assistance.
  • Facilitate collaboration among coalition partners.
  • Increase funding for STLC operations and programming.
  • Maintain current information on the literacy challenges facing groups in the Region One Education Service area, including the counties of Cameron, Hidalgo, Willacy, Starr, Zapata, Webb, and Jim Hogg.
