Proyecto Juan Diego

Who We Are

Proyecto Juan Diego (PJD) is a non-profit organization founded in 2003 by Daughter of Charity Sister Phylis Peters.

The purpose was and continues to be to address the multiple problems or deficiencies that afflict low-income families who live in one of the largest and most neglected communities in the United States: the Cameron Park Colonia.

Over the years, due to a great need in our region for our services, PJD has not only served the Cameron Park community but also people from other low-income communities who, like Cameron Park, face multiple shortages in the city of Brownsville, Texas, and surrounding areas. We design our services to focus on helping each family member: Family Dynamics, Education, Health Care, Immigration Services, and Civic Engagement.

Simultaneously, the PJD Tutoring and Mentoring Program aims to instill in children the passion for learning and to help them achieve academic success.
