Pioneer Ranching and Crafts day is an annual community festival at the Museum of South Texas History, which offers a day filled with entertainment and demonstrations that illustrate the crafts and traditions of early farming and ranching in South Texas and northeastern Mexico.

Museum staff is seeking 30-plus volunteers to fulfill duties at the event, which include gallery hosts, food patrol at the gallery entrances, water and bathroom break floaters, entrance assistants, audio and stage assistants, classroom attendants and costumed interpreters.

The event is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, but volunteers have the following optional shifts:

  • Morning shifts (which begin an hour before the event): 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Afternoon shifts: Noon to 4 p.m.
  • All day shifts: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (lunch provided)


Preferably, volunteers should be 18 and older. Dress code is casual attire (no graphic tees of any kind), comfortable shoes and sunscreen.


Two volunteer orientations will take place Friday, Feb. 8, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 9, from 11 a.m. to Noon. Volunteers are expected to attend one session.
