Opportunity Details:

What You'll Do:
As a Cat Care volunteer, you'll have the purr-fect opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of our feline friends. Your responsibilities may include:

Feeding and Watering: Ensure our cats have fresh food and water to keep them happy and healthy.
Cleaning and Maintenance: Help maintain clean and comfortable living spaces for our cats by scooping litter boxes and tidying up their area.
Socialization: Spend quality time with our cats and kittens, providing love, attention, and enrichment activities to keep them happy and well-socialized.
Observation: Keep an eye out for any signs of illness or behavior changes and report them to our staff.

The Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights is looking for volunteer Child Advocates. We are in need of bilingual, Spanish speaking, volunteers in the McAllen, Edinburg, Brownsville, Harlingen, and Corpus Christi, TX and surrounding areas.

Make a difference in the life of an unaccompanied immigrant child by volunteering to serve as a Child Advocate. A Child Advocate is an adult who volunteers to spend time with and advocate on behalf of an individual unaccompanied immigrant child while he or she is subject to deportation proceedings. We get to know prospective volunteers through an initial screening interview, an application and reference check, and at the required two-day training. Once assigned to an individual child, each Child Advocate receives continuing training, support, and supervision from the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights.

As a Child Advocate, you commit to:

- Must be 21 yrs +

- Be bilingual, preferably in Spanish

- Be able to commit to weekly visits, as needed for on average 3 months.

- Be able to submit & pass state and federal background checks

All internships are unpaid, volunteer-based positions created to provide meaningful, hands-on experience in a nonprofit community setting.

AHCP is currently a mobile program, offering services at community events, partner locations, and pop-up sites across Brownsville and surrounding areas. Interns will gain real experience working directly with families in diverse community environments. Interns must have access to their own laptop for certain tasks.

A minimum commitment of one semester is requested to ensure consistency and a strong learning experience.

Interns may choose from several tracks based on their interests, including Community Outreach & Engagement, Family Navigation, Education & Workshop Support, Community Closet, and Social Media & Communications. Tasks may include supporting events, assisting families with intake or resources, helping run classes or workshops, organizing donations, or creating outreach material.

Expectations:

• Maintain regular communication and follow assigned tasks responsibly

• Uphold confidentiality and professional conduct when working with families

• Be dependable, punctual, and able to work independently when needed

• Participate in community events, workshops, and pop-up service days (some evenings/weekends may occur)

• Complete training provided by AHCP and represent the organization respectfully

• Commit to at least one semester (approximately 10–12 weeks)

Flexible scheduling is available based on student availability, academic needs, and event schedules. AHCP welcomes students from all fields who are passionate about helping families, strengthening communities, and gaining valuable nonprofit experience.

IMAS is looking for enthusiastic and outgoing volunteers to assist at the Mysterious Cosmos Family Fun Night event on December 18th, 2025 from 6 PM – 8:30 PM. This free admission event welcomes visitors to enjoy a variety of galaxy and star themed hands-on activities and presentations. Visitors are also welcome to view the night sky through telescopes, provided and supported by UTRGV Center of Excellence in STEM Education.

*Volunteers will be placed in activity areas based on priority needs and volunteer registration. *

Shifts: (2.5 hr. shifts)

- Galaxy Spin Topper Assistant:

Spin into the Art Studio with visitors. Volunteers will assist the IMAS Educator in the Galaxy Spin Topper activity. Visitors will learn more about the movements of galaxies and the different types as they paint and design their own spiral galaxy onto a wooden spin topper. Volunteers will assist by providing supplies to paint and help clean and keep a tidy area for incoming visitors.

- Multiwavelength Bingo Facilitator:

Facilitate NASA Multiwavelength Bingo in the Art Galleries. Volunteers will provide timed sessions for Multiwavelength Bingo by calling cards and sharing information about the different ways space observatories capture images of galaxies through different wavelengths. After winning cards are confirmed, volunteers will provide winners with a small prize.

- Paper Circuits:

Light Up Exploded Stars Assistant: Learn about circuits and star life cycles in this hands-on activity. Volunteers will assist visitors in this simple circuit activity by distributing materials and assisting with instructions. After visitors create their light up exploded star cards, they may need to adjust positive and negative endings.

- Galaxy Scratch Art Station Facilitator:

There are three main types of galaxies in the universe. In this activity volunteers will distribute scratch art sheets to visitors and encourage visitors to draw galaxies, planets and star inspired art.

Support The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program by assisting at the Angel Tree table inside La Plaza Mall. Volunteers will help shoppers select Angel tags, answer basic questions, collect returned gifts, and represent The Salvation Army with kindness and professionalism.

Duties Include:

Greeting mall visitors and explaining the Angel Tree program

Assisting donors in selecting Angel tags from the tree

Keeping track of tags taken and returned

Receiving donated gifts and ensuring tags are attached correctly

Join us in December 2025 at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness to make a meaningful impact in our community.

We are seeking dedicated volunteers, aged 13 and older to help out on Saturday evenings. Our volunteers are patient, positive, think on their feet, and willing to learn. Tennis experience is preferred but not necessary.

Details: Our 2025 fall pilot session will run for 3 weeks on Saturdays and each clinic day is two hours from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Moody Clinic is seeking dedicated UTRGV students to help provide childcare during our Family Support Group, which meets every 2nd Wednesday of the month. While parents participate in the session, volunteers will care for and engage with their children through conversation, play, or simple crafts.

Volunteer Duties:
Student volunteers will provide supervised childcare for Moody Clinic patients while their parents attend the Family Support Group session. Duties include:

Engaging with children in a friendly and respectful manner through conversation, play, and simple craft activities.

Creating a positive and inclusive environment where every child feels comfortable, supported, and safe.

Monitoring children’s behavior and needs throughout the session and notifying Moody Clinic staff if additional assistance is needed.

Collaborating with Moody Clinic staff members to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all children.

Cinderella Pet Rescue currently only has one social media platform (Facebook) and a website. We need to get other platforms (es. TikTok, Instagram, etc.) established to promote the pets, the needs and the agency. French, Spanish, and speakers of other languages needed for document translation to assist individual's work authorization applications. 

When individuals submit documents to the court and other adjudicators, all of the documents must be presented in English.  We launched Remote Translator Program in February 2021 as an effort to extend our ability to provide translation assistance to the individuals we serve. These documents may include things that will be presented before immigration court and/or other agencies, such as identity documents and declarations. 

Work may be done remotely.  Turnaround time for a document will vary.

We are seeking dedicated individuals to assist with ongoing janitorial and groundskeeping duties to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment at our facility. This opportunity is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM and includes tasks both inside and outside the building.

Volunteers will be responsible for sweeping, mopping, dusting, cleaning restrooms, taking out trash, cleaning windows, and maintaining staircases. Outdoor responsibilities include trimming trees and bushes, sweeping exterior areas, caring for flower beds (including adding mulch when needed), and collecting trash in and around the parking lot.

All volunteers must complete a 5-hour orientation, pass a background check, and adhere to established volunteer rules. The minimum age requirement is 18 years, with no maximum age limit for those able to perform the duties.

Communal cat rooms allow you to enjoy the attention of multiple kitties. But cats also need care, like having clean litter boxes, fresh water and food. Members of the kitty committee commit to taking care of the cat room duties one day per week. That means cleaning litter, ensuring fresh water and kibble are available and dispensing canned food. It also helps to sweep the floor to provide a clean environment for the cats to play. Then is play time. You can use toys and laser pointers to encourage exercise and play, or you can enjoy the cuddle cats that like to be held and loved on. Most of the kitties really like positive attention and reward you with plenty of purrs!

BARCC volunteer duties include cleaning and feeding animals, grooming and exercising animals and attending outreach events. Volunteers working alongside our team are given thorough instructions on how to properly clean kennels, feed, and care for the animals.

Join us on Saturday mornings as we do land stewardship projects for Quinta Mazatlan. Volunteers will get to learn more about local ecology, sustainable landscaping practices, RGV biodiversity, and more, all while giving back to the ecosystems that support us.

The Sheltering (SH) Service Associate is a temporary position assigned to work in person in a Red Cross Shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event. Get your exercise while you exercise a dog! Lots of great dogs need to get out of their pens so they can enjoy getting to stretch their legs and smell nature. They need to spend time socializing with new people and learning how to walk politely on a leash in order to prepare them for adoption. Some of the dogs would enjoy jogging as well. Some days, if you don't want to do a lot of walking, you can take the dog(s) to the play-yards where you can throw a ball or let them run around and entertain themselves. A variety of dogs are ready to show you around the property and show you their terrific personalities.

The Children’s Museum of Brownsville always needs extra hands to help us sustain a space where children can discover, learn and imagine. As a volunteer, help medical providers, including doctors, nurses, counselors, and medical assistants, who volunteer their time to provide non-emergency care. Note: need varies based on the availability of medical providers.

We believe that no one should be denied access to proper hygiene because of their housing situation. In our hygiene program, individuals receive shampoo, soap, toothpaste, and a fresh change of clothes at no cost when they shower at Good Neighbor. Additionally, our laundry program promotes public health and our clients' personal dignity and respect. As a volunteer, you will contribute to this mission while assisting the team in ensuring access to basic sanitation needs, including showers, clothing, laundry, and haircuts. 

As a volunteer, you will work with the garden masters to help plant, harvest, landscape, and beautify our space. Your efforts will help our kitchen team create healthier meal options with ingredients produced in our own backyard. This position supports the Regional Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) department. The Disaster Action Team (DAT) Duty Officer ensures timely activation and monitoring of local and regional DAT responses. The Duty Officer supports the DAT program either at the chapter/territory or region level. The following are requirements:  

1. Reliable access to a computer, internet, and a phone. 2). Comfortable using and learning new technology; 3) Commitment to use RC and RC respond system as needed; 4) Able to prioritize multiple task in complex; 5) Must be 18 years or older; 6) strong written and verbal communication skills; 7) ability to speak clearly on the phone; 8) Willingness to comply with current public health and Red Cross policies

A front office clerk in your organization will be responsible for greeting and welcoming visitors, assisting with the making of applications, and communicating with the team when someone arrives to see them or their specific service.

Create a safe environment for caregivers of people living with dementia to share their feelings and experiences.  Please visit To Volunteer Register Here. These groups are non-clinical support groups. The meetings are about an hour and are held monthly.

Attend local community events, raise awareness of the Association's programs, provide basic information and connect people to services. Volunteers are subject to a background check. The Volunteer Outreach Specialist supports community engagement by preparing outreach materials, setting up and attending events, and providing office assistance. They create impactful communication materials, coordinate logistics for events, and engage directly with the community to promote volunteer opportunities. This role requires strong organizational skills, effective communication abilities, and a passion for community involvement. The Specialist collaborates with team members and builds relationships with stakeholders to ensure successful outreach efforts align with organizational goals. Overall, they play a vital role in fostering connections and promoting the organization's mission through active community outreach.

Tutoring can range from English, math, science, and many more subjects. Students will range from young elementary age to adults seeking further education. 

Who said volunteering can't be fun? We encourage our tutors to be creative with activities and have fun while they are here.

UTRGV faculty member Dr. Carina Marques, PhD in Biological Anthropology, Assistant Professor of the Anthropology Department, College of Liberal Arts, the School of Integrative Biological and Chemical Sciences (SIBCS), and coordinator of the UTRGV’s Forensic Anthropology Research Laboratory (FAR-LAB) is willing to assist Brooks County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) in the search and recovery of deceased migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.

This program provides food security by distributing pantry bags tailored for low-income and elderly clients and special packages for unhoused individuals. Volunteer duties include receiving and organizing items from the food bank.

We are looking for people who know ASL or are ASL teachers who want to volunteer their time to help us learn common phrases in ASL as well as communicate to our clients who want to learn ASL.

La Posada Providencia welcomes all volunteers!

We have activities ranging from sorting clothing, garden work, teaching, and fun client-driven activities.

We like to have fun while volunteering, so if anyone wants to bring in an idea for an activity, you are more than welcome!

La Posada accepts short-term and long-term volunteers. If you need a specific number of hours for a course, let us know and we can work with you.
