Operation Christmas RGV is seeking volunteers to support our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, which provides free tax preparation services to low- and moderate-income individuals and families in the Rio Grande Valley. Volunteers will assist clients by preparing accurate tax returns while following IRS VITA guidelines.

Prepare basic federal and state tax returns

Interview clients to collect tax and income information

Apply tax law accurately under IRS VITA standards

Protect client confidentiality and sensitive information

Provide professional and respectful service to community members

Some experience with tax preparation or tax law is required

Examples include:

Prior VITA participation

Accounting, finance, or tax-related coursework

Professional or internship experience preparing taxes

Strong attention to detail

Willingness to complete required VITA training and certification

IRS VITA Certification (Provided when enrolled to volunteer)

Join us in Spring 2026 at Kroc Tennis Center to make a meaningful impact in our community.

We are seeking dedicated volunteers, aged 14 and older to help out on Sunday afternoons. Our volunteers are patient, positive, think on their feet, and willing to learn. Tennis experience is preferred but not necessary.

Details: Our 2026 spring session will run for 6 weeks and each clinic day is one hour from 1:00 - 2:00 pm.

This is a cleanup of the areas around the Jaime Zapata Boat Ramp and Gayman's Bridge.

The meeting point will be at the Jaime Zapata Boat Ramp at 44270 State Highway 48, Brownsville, TX 78521. The cleanup will be on Saturday, February 21st from 9am to 1pm.

All cleanup supplies such as trash bags, trash grabbers, nitrile gloves, work gloves, sunscreen, insect repellent, snacks, waters, and Gatorades will be provided.

Please wear closed toe boots or shoes and a cap or hat.

Join the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley team at Gem Valley Farm to help maintain and care for our community garden!

Assist with planting, watering, weeding, and general garden upkeep to keep the farm thriving. This is a great opportunity to spend time outdoors, learn about gardening, and support your local community.

Special Olympics Texas South Region Bowling Competition will be hosted in the Rio Grande Valley Area on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Main Event Pharr!

We are looking for Competition Logistics Assistants to help ensure a smooth and fun experience for all athletes. Duties include:

Score & Results Assistant: Track scores and manage results to ensure accurate competition standings.

Awards Assistant: Support the distribution of medals and recognitions to athletes after their events.

Participant Support Assistant: Assist athletes with check-in, guide them to lanes, and provide encouragement during play.

The STXFUD Impact Symposium is a community-centered event bringing together youth leaders, student organizations, nonprofits, and local changemakers to showcase impact-driven projects and initiatives across the Rio Grande Valley.

Helping maintain an organized and quiet competition environment

Providing directions and assistance to families and community organizations on-site

The Greatest American Cleanup (GAC) is the biggest cleanup event Keep McAllen Beautiful hosts in the City of McAllen. Every year hundreds of volunteers gather to help cleanup McAllen streets, Hike & Bike trails, railroad tracks, parks, and schools. The Greatest American Cleanup will take place Saturday, April 11, 2026. Everyone is treated to a free t-shirt, food and fun. Look forward to seeing you there!

Parent Educators / Facilitators support families by leading parenting education sessions through our Raising Highly Capable Kids (RHCK) program. This role focuses on guiding group discussions, sharing evidence-based parenting strategies, and creating a welcoming, respectful learning space for parents and caregivers.

Community Closet Support Volunteers help ensure families can access clothing and essential items with dignity and care. Volunteers assist with sorting and organizing donations, preparing clothing vouchers, and supporting families during scheduled Community Closet hours.

This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy hands-on work, community interaction, and supporting families in a welcoming environment.

Volunteers will help distribute food boxes and produce to seniors as part of the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), a federal program that provides monthly nutritious food to low-income seniors to improve their health.

This is a double hour opportunity

Product Recovery: Inspect, sort, and clean products received from local food drives and retail donations.

The Inclusion Caboose prides itself in being a unique park library whose goals are to increase literacy within the community and to provide inclusive programs for children with special needs. The Inclusion Caboose is located on the side of Linear Park closest to the Brownsville Museum of Fine Arts and runs along with the Farmers Market.

As a volunteer one might help:

Tasks may include supporting events, assisting families with intake or resources, helping run classes or workshops, organizing donations, or creating outreach material.

Expectations:

• Maintain regular communication and follow assigned tasks responsibly

• Uphold confidentiality and professional conduct when working with families

• Be dependable, punctual, and able to work independently when needed

• Participate in community events, workshops, and pop-up service days (some evenings/weekends may occur)

The Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights is looking for volunteer Child Advocates. We are in need of bilingual, Spanish speaking, volunteers in the McAllen, Edinburg, Brownsville, Harlingen, and Corpus Christi, TX and surrounding areas.

Make a difference in the life of an unaccompanied immigrant child by volunteering to serve as a Child Advocate. A Child Advocate is an adult who volunteers to spend time with and advocate on behalf of an individual unaccompanied immigrant child while he or she is subject to deportation proceedings. We get to know prospective volunteers through an initial screening interview, an application and reference check, and at the required two-day training. Once assigned to an individual child, each Child Advocate receives continuing training, support, and supervision from the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights.

Moody Clinic is seeking dedicated UTRGV students to help provide childcare during our Family Support Group, which meets every 2nd Wednesday of the month. While parents participate in the session, volunteers will care for and engage with their children through conversation, play, or simple crafts.

Volunteer Duties:
Student volunteers will provide supervised childcare for Moody Clinic patients while their parents attend the Family Support Group session. Duties include:

Engaging with children in a friendly and respectful manner through conversation, play, and simple craft activities.

Creating a positive and inclusive environment where every child feels comfortable, supported, and safe.

Monitoring children’s behavior and needs throughout the session and notifying Moody Clinic staff if additional assistance is needed.

Collaborating with Moody Clinic staff members to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all children.

Assisting with basic cleanup or putting away materials after activities.

Volunteers will not perform any medical care; Moody Clinic staff will be on-site to provide support if a child requires additional attention.

Many of the children have special needs such as Down Syndrome, Autism, Spina Bifida, or Cerebral Palsy. Volunteers are expected to treat all children with respect and professionalism. No medical care is required—Moody Clinic staff members will be present to assist as needed.

Their work directly supports our ability to serve hundreds of families each year through our programs, such as toy drives, community meals, and holiday assistance. The committee’s efforts strengthen the foundation that allows our outreach to grow. The Treasurer Committee within Operation Christmas RGV plays a vital role in supporting the financial integrity and transparency of our nonprofit. This committee works closely with our Treasurer to assist with budgeting, record-keeping, fundraising logistics, and financial reporting.

French, Spanish, and speakers of other languages needed for document translation to assist individual's work authorization applications. 

When individuals submit documents to the court and other adjudicators, all of the documents must be presented in English.  We launched Remote Translator Program in February 2021 as an effort to extend our ability to provide translation assistance to the individuals we serve. These documents may include things that will be presented before immigration court and/or other agencies, such as identity documents and declarations. 

Work may be done remotely.  Turnaround time for a document will vary.

We are seeking dedicated individuals to assist with ongoing janitorial and groundskeeping duties to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment at our facility. This opportunity is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM and includes tasks both inside and outside the building.

Volunteers will be responsible for sweeping, mopping, dusting, cleaning restrooms, taking out trash, cleaning windows, and maintaining staircases. Outdoor responsibilities include trimming trees and bushes, sweeping exterior areas, caring for flower beds (including adding mulch when needed), and collecting trash in and around the parking lot.

All volunteers must complete a 5-hour orientation, pass a background check, and adhere to established volunteer rules. The minimum age requirement is 18 years, with no maximum age limit for those able to perform the duties.

Communal cat rooms allow you to enjoy the attention of multiple kitties. But cats also need care, like having clean litter boxes, fresh water and food. Members of the kitty committee commit to taking care of the cat room duties one day per week. That means cleaning litter, ensuring fresh water and kibble are available and dispensing canned food. It also helps to sweep the floor to provide a clean environment for the cats to play. Then is play time. You can use toys and laser pointers to encourage exercise and play, or you can enjoy the cuddle cats that like to be held and loved on. Most of the kitties really like positive attention and reward you with plenty of purrs!

BARCC volunteer duties include cleaning and feeding animals, grooming and exercising animals and attending outreach events. Volunteers working alongside our team are given thorough instructions on how to properly clean kennels, feed, and care for the animals.

Join us on Saturday mornings as we do land stewardship projects for Quinta Mazatlan. Volunteers will get to learn more about local ecology, sustainable landscaping practices, RGV biodiversity, and more, all while giving back to the ecosystems that support us.

Volunteers will respond to emergency/disaster related calls. They will provide emergency/disaster information and referrals to the general public by softphone (online telephone), and are responsible to document the referrals provided and client’s demographics. All equipment needed for calls will be provided. This will be in an office space setting. 

COVID-19 Protocols: To maintain a safe environment for all volunteers we require the use of a face mask for anyone in the office (face mask not provided). There will be a sanitation station were hand sanitizer and disinfecting spray/wipes will be available for volunteers. Volunteer's workstation will be disinfected before and after every shift.

This position supports the Regional Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) department. The Sheltering (SH) Service Associate is a temporary position assigned to work in person in a Red Cross Shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event. Sheltering Service Associates complete task necessary for shelter operations and interacts with clients to ensure their needs are met. Sheltering Service associates supports the day-to-day activities within a shelter, which can include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information or other areas within a shelter.

Get your exercise while you exercise a dog! Lots of great dogs need to get out of their pens so they can enjoy getting to stretch their legs and smell nature. They need to spend time socializing with new people and learning how to walk politely on a leash in order to prepare them for adoption. Some of the dogs would enjoy jogging as well. Some days, if you don't want to do a lot of walking, you can take the dog(s) to the play-yards where you can throw a ball or let them run around and entertain themselves. A variety of dogs are ready to show you around the property and show you their terrific personalities.

Help us promote sexual health and healthy relationships in our community.

As a volunteer, you are not just a helper but an integral part of our team. Your role in our education and outreach efforts, whether it's labeling brochures, bundling condoms, creating promotional buttons, or organizing supplies, is invaluable and greatly appreciated. 

Most volunteer work is done at our administration office, 916 E. Hackberry, Suite A, McAllen, Monday through Friday. We also offer limited volunteer opportunities to help staff with outreach at the UTRGV Edinburg campus; please let us know by email if you are interested.

Access Esperanza Clinics is the largest and oldest sexual and reproductive health agency along the South Texas border. We're 60 years strong and serve over 15,000 adults and teens annually. We offer health check-ups, birth control, STD testing/treatment, and other preventive health services. Most patients pay little to nothing for their care. Come to our warehouse and help us sort and organize donated goods for our Family Store. Tasks include unloading donated goods from donors' vehicles, carrying boxes, and sorting.

The Community Council of the Rio Grande Valley is looking for dedicated volunteers to assist with emergency and disaster-related calls. We provide all necessary equipment, and mileage to the site will be reimbursed.

As a volunteer, you will play a vital role in our mission to connect individuals with essential resources and services. You’ll work in an office setting and receive comprehensive training before responding to any calls. Notably, training hours count as volunteer hours.

American Red Cross

We want to help transition those experiencing homelessness into permanent, self-sustaining living by building a personal connection with each of these individuals. We aim to improve the individual's housing, health status, and social support network with services such as resume building, applying for benefits, case management, job search, hygiene kits, and snack bags. As a volunteer, you will assist our street outreach team in providing services to individuals who cannot visit our facilities, supplying individuals with hygiene kits, meals, and bare essential supplies. Please note that there is a minimum hour requirement of 4 hours, as this position consists of driving around neighboring areas to provide our services.

This training opportunity is open to volunteers that would like to serve in American Red Cross shelters.
