Volunteer: Dog Walker

Calling All Dog Lovers! Make a Pawsitive Impact Today!

Are you a dog lover looking to make a real difference in the lives of shelter pups? Look no further!
Palm Valley Animal Society needs dedicated volunteers like you to join as a Pack member and become a dog walker.

Why Dog Walking Matters:
Every wagging tail, happy bark, and excited leap tells a story of hope and happiness. For shelter dogs, daily walks aren't just about exercise - they're about connection, enrichment, and the chance to experience the world beyond their kennels. This simple act can help save the life of one of our dogs; ask us how.

Here's why your help matters:

Physical Health: Regular walks are essential for a dog's physical well-being. They provide exercise, help maintain a healthy weight, and promote overall fitness.

Mental Stimulation: Imagine spending your days in a confined space with limited stimulation. For shelter dogs, walks offer mental enrichment, reducing stress, anxiety, and a decline in quality of life.

Socialization: Many shelter dogs long for human interaction and companionship. Walks provide valuable opportunities for socialization, helping dogs build confidence and trust.

Behavioral Improvement: Well-exercised dogs are often better behaved. By providing regular walks, you're helping our furry friends develop good manners and become more adoptable.

Increase the chances of Adoption:  Because we have more dogs than staff, we are not always able to spend this precious time with our doggies to help learn more about who they really are, so our volunteers will play a crucial role in letting us know how they did outside of the kennel and can also help provide insight on their characteristics and even get some great pictures and photos that we can share with potential adopters.

Join the Pack:
Volunteering as a dog walker at PVAS is a rewarding experience that benefits both you and our canine residents. Not only will you make lifelong furry friends, but you'll also play a crucial role in preparing dogs for their forever homes.

How to Get Started:
Ready to lend a paw? Sign up via Engagement Zone then await an email response from one of our Dept Coordinators or reach out to us. You can also get a step ahead of the game and submit your volunteer form via our main website. Whether you can commit to daily walks or just a few hours a week, every contribution makes a difference. There is additional training needed, but this is all to ensure you are well-equipped and confident in performing the task at hand.

Let's walk together towards a brighter future for shelter dogs!

Volunteer: VITA Tax Preparer (2026)

Certifying to become a volunteer tax preparer takes time and dedication. While the trainings may be over, you can ask for guidance at any time.
Resources:Pub 6744- This is the publication containing the exams that you must take as a volunteer to help prepare taxes. It is available online and you may request print copies of the exam to pick up at the United Way office in Brownsville. Exams are open book. Pub 4012- This is the publication containing the tax law and guidance on how to use the software. Use this to help answer your exams.
Exams:Volunteer Standard of Conduct (10 questions)- There are 6 volunteer standards of conduct that all volunteers must adhere to. You can refer to PUB 6744 (on the back of the cover page or page 2). Intake/Interview and Quality Review (10 questions) - This is in reference to the intake sheet that all clients must fill out without any exception. You can see the form here. This form will ask the client about all their information and any tax forms that are bringing with them. Any dark area must be filled out by the tax preparer volunteer. For example, on page 2, the left side is white, hence the client fills that out, while the right side is dark grey. The volunteer will confirm the information with the client from the left side and make any notes on the dark grey area. Refer to this publication for training. Basic Certification- There are two certification levels- Basic and Advance.
