This training opportunity is open to volunteers that would like to serve in American Red Cross shelters. 

The Sheltering (SH) Service Associate (SA) is a temporary position assigned to work in person in a Red Cross shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event. Sheltering Service Associates complete tasks necessary for shelter operations and interacts with clients to ensure their needs are met. Sheltering Service Associates support the day-to-day activities within a shelter, which can include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information or other areas within a shelter.

Responsibilities vary depending on assignment.

Moody Clinic is seeking dedicated UTRGV students to help provide childcare during our Family Support Group, which meets every 2nd Wednesday of the month. While parents participate in the session, volunteers will care for and engage with their children through conversation, play, or simple crafts.

Volunteer Duties:
Student volunteers will provide supervised childcare for Moody Clinic patients while their parents attend the Family Support Group session. Duties include:

Engaging with children in a friendly and respectful manner through conversation, play, and simple craft activities.

Creating a positive and inclusive environment where every child feels comfortable, supported, and safe.

Monitoring children’s behavior and needs throughout the session and notifying Moody Clinic staff if additional assistance is needed.

Collaborating with Moody Clinic staff members to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all children.

Assisting with basic cleanup or putting away materials after activities.

Volunteers will not perform any medical care; Moody Clinic staff will be on-site to provide support if a child requires additional attention.

Many of the children have special needs such as Down Syndrome, Autism, Spina Bifida, or Cerebral Palsy. Volunteers are expected to treat all children with respect and professionalism. No medical care is required—Moody Clinic staff members will be present to assist as needed.

Volunteer Requirements:

Open to students from all majors (Education and Social Work preferred)

Experience working with children with special needs is preferred but not required

Must demonstrate professionalism, patience, and compassion

Join us in preparing our space for Honey Fest 2026 by supporting property clean-up efforts. Volunteers will assist with removing trash, clearing cuttings, and disposing of construction debris to help create a safe and welcoming environment.

IMAS is looking for friendly and outgoing volunteers that love science and want to help facilitate hands on science activities during our Corning Connects: STEM Learning Day!
Volunteers will conduct simple STEM activities for visitors to explore and try out themselves.
Depending on volunteer registration, volunteers will be placed in areas dependent on the most need.

Volunteer Activity Areas:

1.      Kinetic Impact: The kinetic impact table is all about kinetic energy and uses two metal spheres and small leaflet paper. Volunteers will first demonstrate how to use the metal spheres and then invite visitors to try it themselves.

a.      First, ask a visitor to hold the leaflet paper out in front of them with two fingers and then the volunteer will quickly hit the two spheres together with the paper in between. The hard and fast impact creates heat energy and burns a small hole in the paper! Share the fun and let visitors try it out!

2.      Conductors & Insulators: Conductors and Insulators table uses small loose objects to teach about conductive and non-conductive materials when creating a simple circuit with alligator clips, batteries and a LED light.

a.      Volunteers will invite visitors to try out different materials and see which one works best to transfer electricity from one alligator clip to the other. We noticed the paper clip works but the rubberband and penny do not.

3.      Art Bot Arena: The Art bot arena melds both science and art in this fun demonstration area that uses simple circuits and markers. The volunteers will assist IMAS educators as visitors swap out markers and add onto art bots.

a.      Place the art bots into the closed arena and watch how they interact and bump into each other as they create abstract art with their marker legs.

4.      Outdoor Fizzy Rockets: The Fizzy Rockets is an outdoor activity that creates an explosive chemical reaction when vinegar and baking soda are encased in a film canister. Volunteers will help visitors safely take part in the activity by ensuring they wear lab goggles, aprons or lab coats.

a.      Volunteers will also show them how to make little vinegar packets that will be placed into the canister, closed tightly and then flipped upside down. When the pressure builds up, it will blow the lid off, and our rocket will go flying high!

Cinderella Pet Rescue has recently expanded its facilities with new structures, while also maintaining an older building that now needs a little extra care. To help preserve these spaces and ensure they remain safe, welcoming, and functional for years to come, we are hosting a painting and beautification project.

Volunteers will play a key role in refreshing these areas by painting and improving the overall appearance of the site. This effort not only enhances the environment for the animals in our care but also supports the long-term sustainability of the rescue.

AHSTI is currently seeking a reliable and detail-oriented volunteer to assist our Servicing Department during a critical time each month.

Each month, during the second week, our Servicing Department prepares and mails important statements and documents to our customers. This process is time-sensitive and essential to ensuring families receive the information they need without delays. With our current staffing needs, we’re looking for volunteers to help us stay on track.

As a volunteer, you’ll assist with hands-on tasks such as folding statements, inserting them into envelopes, sealing, and organizing outgoing mail. While simple, this work plays a critical role in supporting our mission and keeping our operations running smoothly.

The commitment would be approximately 2–3 hours per day for 3–5 days (in the mornings) during the second week of each month, depending on the workload.

Help Estero Llano Grande State Park's pollinators thrive by removing invasive plants and encourage beneficial native plant growth. This ongoing volunteer project helps pollinators like bees, butterflies, and other insects have plenty of food and shelter that they need to survive and help pollinate other native plants. 

Examples of work for this kind of project include removing invasive guinea grass, trimming plants, seed collection, and other related habitat work. It can be tough work, but the bees and butterflies really do appreciate the help!

The Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights is looking for volunteer Child Advocates. We are in need of bilingual, Spanish speaking, volunteers in the McAllen, Edinburg, Brownsville, Harlingen, and Corpus Christi, TX and surrounding areas.

Make a difference in the life of an unaccompanied immigrant child by volunteering to serve as a Child Advocate. A Child Advocate is an adult who volunteers to spend time with and advocate on behalf of an individual unaccompanied immigrant child while he or she is subject to deportation proceedings. We get to know prospective volunteers through an initial screening interview, an application and reference check, and at the required two-day training. Once assigned to an individual child, each Child Advocate receives continuing training, support, and supervision from the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights.

As a Child Advocate, you commit to:

Cinderella Pet Rescue currently only has one social media platform (Facebook) and a website. We need to get other platforms (es. TikTok, Instagram, etc.) established to promote the pets, the needs and the agency. The goal of more adoptions, more volunteers and more funds to support the animals should be easier with the addition of additional active social media platforms.

French, Spanish, and speakers of other languages needed for document translation to assist individual's work authorization applications. 

When individuals submit documents to the court and other adjudicators, all of the documents must be presented in English.  We launched Remote Translator Program in February 2021 as an effort to extend our ability to provide translation assistance to the individuals we serve. These documents may include things that will be presented before immigration court and/or other agencies, such as identity documents and declarations. 

Work may be done remotely.  Turnaround time for a document will vary.  

Students interested in assisting the South American Archaeology Lab can reach out to lab coordinators, Dr. Sarah Rowe or Dr. Guy Duke. Volunteer hours are on Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout the school year. Students will inventory books, files, and artifacts, and digitize slides, videos, and other media.

We are seeking dedicated individuals to assist with ongoing janitorial and groundskeeping duties to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment at our facility. This opportunity is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM and includes tasks both inside and outside the building.

Volunteers will be responsible for sweeping, mopping, dusting, cleaning restrooms, taking out trash, cleaning windows, and maintaining staircases. Outdoor responsibilities include trimming trees and bushes, sweeping exterior areas, caring for flower beds (including adding mulch when needed), and collecting trash in and around the parking lot.

All volunteers must complete a 5-hour orientation, pass a background check, and adhere to established volunteer rules. The minimum age requirement is 18 years, with no maximum age limit for those able to perform the duties.

Communal cat rooms allow you to enjoy the attention of multiple kitties. But cats also need care, like having clean litter boxes, fresh water and food. Members of the kitty committee commit to taking care of the cat room duties one day per week. That means cleaning litter, ensuring fresh water and kibble are available and dispensing canned food. It also helps to sweep the floor to provide a clean environment for the cats to play. Then is play time. You can use toys and laser pointers to encourage exercise and play, or you can enjoy the cuddle cats that like to be held and loved on. Most of the kitties really like positive attention and reward you with plenty of purrs!

BARCC volunteer duties include cleaning and feeding animals, grooming and exercising animals and attending outreach events. Volunteers working alongside our team are given thorough instructions on how to properly clean kennels, feed, and care for the animals.

Join us on Saturday mornings as we do land stewardship projects for Quinta Mazatlan. Volunteers will get to learn more about local ecology, sustainable landscaping practices, RGV biodiversity, and more, all while giving back to the ecosystems that support us.

Tasks include:

Plant seed collecting

Plant propagation (via seeds, vegetative propagation)

Planting trees, shrubs, vines

Basic garden care

Invasive species control

We accept volunteers ages 14+, but if you are a minor, you will need a parent or authorized representative to sign a volunteer registration and release of liability. The form will appear during sign-up for you to accept, but minors will also need to print the signed release and bring it with them to Quinta Mazatlan when they come to volunteer.

The Community Council of the Rio Grande Valley is needing volunteers at their office located in: 3516 E. Expressway 83, Suite 5 Weslaco, Texas 78596.

Volunteers will respond to emergency/disaster related calls. They will provide emergency/disaster information and referrals to the general public by softphone (online telephone), and are responsible to document the referrals provided and client’s demographics. All equipment needed for calls will be provided. This will be in an office space setting. 

COVID-19 Protocols: To maintain a safe environment for all volunteers we require the use of a face mask for anyone in the office (face mask not provided). There will be a sanitation station were hand sanitizer and disinfecting spray/wipes will be available for volunteers. Volunteer's workstation will be disinfected before and after every shift.

Get your exercise while you exercise a dog! Lots of great dogs need to get out of their pens so they can enjoy getting to stretch their legs and smell nature. They need to spend time socializing with new people and learning how to walk politely on a leash in order to prepare them for adoption. Some of the dogs would enjoy jogging as well. Some days, if you don't want to do a lot of walking, you can take the dog(s) to the play-yards where you can throw a ball or let them run around and entertain themselves. A variety of dogs are ready to show you around the property and show you their terrific personalities.
