Who We Are

The McAllen Nature Center is an urban oasis for native and migratory animals and the humans who visit. Nature enthusiasts have documented over 240 species of birds, almost 100 species of butterflies, a variety of reptiles and mammals in the center! The 33-acre nature center offers two miles of trails through an old-growth Tamulipan Thornscrub habitat that sends visitors back in time to what McAllen looked like before it was a city.

What We Do

The McAllen Nature Center invites you to walk or run the trails, bring a picnic, view wildlife, or relax amongst the scenery. Nature center guests can take a break and relax at any of the benches, picnic tables, or even under the shade of the grand oak trees on site. The seasonal bird-feeding areas provide a rest stop for migrating birds and close views for nature enthusiasts of all levels. The McAllen Nature Center asks to keep the park clean and safe for other guests and resident animals by not littering, not smoking, keeping any music to low volumes, staying on the trails, and keeping bikes, grills, and pets at home.
