Who We Are

La Posada Providencia strives to satisfy the basic subsistence needs of poor immigrants, asylees, and asylum seekers in the lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas and to promote their successful integration into U. S. society.

Our clients are a very vulnerable group of human beings. They are in an unfamiliar environment and face fear, poverty, language barriers, cultural differences, and lack of information concerning their rights and options, all combining to create a sense of powerlessness. La Posada strives to mitigate this powerlessness by giving clients the voice they need to communicate their goals, thus enabling us to help them move forward with their resettlement.

La Posada Providencia, founded and sponsored by the Sisters of Divine Providence, is a ministry for people in crisis from around the world who are seeking legal refuge in this country. The Shelter staff provides a safe and welcoming home, mentors to promote self-sufficiency and cultural integration, and imparts values that witness God’s Providence in our world.

What We Do

Having a shelter is one of our most fundamental needs and one of our most basic rights. At La Posada Providencia, our clients find shelter, a haven, a place of acceptance and nurturing. It is a place to prepare for the next step in their resettlement journey.

La Posada's 24/7 emergency shelter provides for clients' immediate needs, ensuring their safety and providing them clean shelter, food, shower and laundry facilities, computer, and internet access, clothes and personal supplies, and access to needed services for up to 24 people per day. In addition, our shelter program offers a stabilizing support system for immigrants and asylum seekers while considering their next resettlement step.
