IMAS
is looking for enthusiastic and outgoing volunteers to assist at the 2025 IMAS
Day of Play on September 27, from 10 am to 3 pm. IMAS Day of Play is in partnership with The Association of Children's Museums and Nickelodeon. This event encourages
families to get active and learn through play and exploration at IMAS in our interactive exhibits and hands on activities.
Shifts: (2.5 hr. shifts)
- 10 am – 12:30 pm (2.5)
- 12:30
pm – 3 pm (2.5)
***Registered Volunteers will be placed in areas based on the most need dependent on registrations.
Volunteer Station & Needs:
McAllen Public Utility Biozone Lab
- Mini Catapult Launchers Assistant: Experiment with energy and motion through catapult engineering design and kinetic and potential energy. Use wooden skewers and rubber bands to form your structure and see how far you can launch your projectiles outdoors!
- Volunteer Description:
Volunteer in the MPU Biozone lab with an IMAS Educator and assist visitors as
they create their take home mini catapults. Volunteers will ensure activity supplies
are organized and tidy for incoming visitors while providing assistance and help as needed.
Ann Moore Art Studio
- Snap Circuit Spin Art Assistant: Help visitors create mini work of spin art with Snap Circuit projects. Circuits need to create a complete path to allow electricity to flow and turn your DC motor on. Then place your paper circle on the motor axle and carefully add different colors of markers to the paper and watch how the motor creates mini works of spin art!
- Volunteer Description:
Get into Craft and Tinkering as you work with snap circuits to create simple
circuits to make your motor go. Create a unique work of spin art as you
experiment with markers, paper and a DC motor.
El Estudio Gallery
- El Estudio Gallery Assistant: Explore the intersection of art and science in El Estudio. Create a stop motion video at Animation Station, experiment with physics at Chain Reaction and create vibrations at Pitch Slider and more!
- Volunteer Description:
El Estudio is full of interactive and engaging hands-on exhibits, from
Pitch Slider to Chain Reaction. IMAS is looking for a volunteer to help
visitors who may have questions about these exhibits and how they work.
Outdoor Courtyard
- Outdoor Games Facilitator: Get active outdoors and facilitate games with kids and families. Facilitated games include sack races, three-legged race, and tug of war. Other outdoor games and activities include corn hole, large Jenga, large chess, and bubble station.
- Volunteer Description: Volunteer in the game station in the outdoor picnic courtyard and invite visitors to race against each other in sack races, show their strength in tug of war and coordinate with their partner in the three-legged race. Volunteers will gather participants, provide game instructions and referee games.
