IMAS is looking for enthusiastic and outgoing volunteers
to assist at the Mysterious Cosmos Family Fun Night event on November 20th,
2025 from 6 PM – 8:30 PM. This free admission event welcomes all visitors to
enjoy a variety of solar system themed hands-on activities and presentations. Visitors
are also welcome to view the night sky through telescopes, provided and
supported by UTRGV Center
of Excellence in STEM Education.
*Volunteers will be placed in activity areas dependent on volunteer needs and registrations.
Shifts: (2.5 hr. shifts)

Solar System Shrink Dink Assistant: Get crafty and creative in the Art
Studio with Solar System themed Key chains and bracelets. Volunteers will
assist the IMAS Educator as they place incoming shrink plastic in the conventional
oven and assist visitors by passing out materials, keeping activity tables
tidy, and assisting with key chain or bracelet fastening.
Spectacular Solar System Bingo Facilitator: Facilitate Spectacular Solar System Bingo in the Science on a Sphere theatre where beautiful images of the planets will be on full display. Volunteers will provide timed sessions of Solar System Bingo by calling cards and sharing solar system facts. After winning cards are confirmed, volunteers will provide winners with a small prize.
Paper Helicopter Engineering Assistant: Learn about Mars Helicopter, Ingenuity who is specially designed to fly in Mars atmosphere. Volunteers will assist visitors in this simple engineering activity by distributing materials and assisting with folding and cutting instructions. After visitors create their helicopter, they will test, evaluate and optimize their paper helicopter before taking it home with them.
Solar System Coloring Station Facilitator: Assist in the Fine Art Galleries by providing a calming activity for visitors. Volunteers will welcome visitors to the Art Galleries and invite them to take part in the coloring activity. Volunteers will also help keep a tidy area for incoming visitors and ensure crayons stay on the activity tables.
