Exploring the Olmecs Event - Activity & Guest Support

Description

IMAS is looking for enthusiastic and outgoing volunteers to assist at the Exploring the Olmecs event on January 17, 2026 from 10 AM – 5 PM. This cultural event welcomes visitors to enjoy a variety of Mesoamerican themed hands-on activities and presentations. Visitors are also welcome to join talks to learn more about the Olmec civilization, explore the outdoor vendors, create a Jaguar mask like the Aztecs or take part in the community art project with artist Josue Ramirez.

*Volunteers will be placed in activity areas based on priority needs and volunteer registration. *

Shifts: (2.5 hr. shifts)
- 10 am – 1:30 pm
- 1:30 pm - 5:00 pm

Volunteer activities include:

Jaguar Masks: Volunteers will assist IMAS Educators in this hands-on art activity that invites visitors to create their own Aztec inspired Jaguar Mask. Visitors will be provided with a template mask along with paint and markers. Volunteers will provide materials and help keep and clean and tidy activity space for incoming visitors.

Ojo de Dios: Volunteers will provide materials and assistance to visitors participating in the textile activity, Ojo de Dios.

Mesoamerican Bingo: Volunteers will facilitate engaging sessions of Mesoamerican Bingo by calling cards and sharing information provided in the calling cards. After winning cards are confirmed, volunteers will provide winners with a small prize.

Olmec Colossal Head Pinata Activity: Volunteers will assist in the community art activity alongside IMAS Educator and artist, Josue Ramirez. Visitors are invited to apply precut tissue paper fringe and apply to base sculpture with glue. Together, visitors will apply different colors that will make the sculpture into a vibrant Olmec colossal head.
